Believing in the uniqueness of every child, the Shri educational philosophy strongly emphasizes delivering education tailored to each student. In line with this philosophy, the school provides interactive and experiential learning opportunities. The teaching approach incorporates a diverse blend of the latest educational innovations and draws from recent research in pedagogy.
With the Shri Philosophy serving as the cornerstone of all teaching and learning processes, our primary aim is to ensure that each child reaches their fullest potential by acquiring essential knowledge and skills. This preparation enables them to effectively engage as active and contributing members of our society. The school’s activities and programs are carefully designed to support every child in achieving their ‘Personal Best’ and continually striving to surpass their own achievements.
At The Shri Ram Universal School, the approach to teaching and learning is carefully crafted to emphasize not only “what” is learned but also “how” it is learned. With a strong belief that experiential learning fosters the development of lifelong learners, the school employs a variety of specially designed and highly regarded programs, including the following:
- Choice Time Activities: Choice Time Activities grant our pre-primary students the freedom to explore different activity corners and select activities based on their preferences. They can opt to read a storybook, engage with building blocks, draw or color, play with modeling dough, or satisfy their curiosity in the discovery room.
- Circle Time: Circle Time activities are conducted regularly, allowing the Class Teacher to connect with students and create a platform for addressing issues and challenges within the class group. It serves as an opportunity to instill the school’s Core Values.
- Wonder Time: Wonder Time is an activity that nurtures one of the most crucial skills children need throughout their learning journey: observation. Children are inherently curious and eager to explore their surroundings. By providing various materials to touch, observe, and manipulate, they learn the art of observation, recording, inference, and drawing conclusions.
- Show ‘n’ Tell: In the elementary and lower primary grades, Show ‘n’ Tell serves as an educational strategy to develop language skills, boost confidence, and enhance presentation abilities in young learners. Progressing from structured to unstructured sessions, this activity provides children with a platform to speak, encouraging them with positivity. It marks a child’s initial steps toward addressing an audience and making presentations, valuable skills for the real world.
- DEAR (Drop Everything and Read): The DEAR program dedicates 15 minutes within the timetable for Kindergarten to Grade V, specifically for reading. This additional reading time complements the Library periods allocated for each grade.
- BaLA (Building as a Learning Aid): This represents a comprehensive approach to strategically plan and utilize school infrastructure. It encompasses the principles of activity-based learning, child-centric design, and inclusive education for children with special needs (CWSN). At its core, it posits that the architectural design of a school can serves as a valuable resource for the teaching and learning processes.BaLA revolves around harnessing the potential of three-dimensional space as a child-friendly learning tool accessible to all students.
The architectural components of conventional concrete structures are creatively adapted to engage children actively and imaginatively. These various BaLA elements can be integrated into both indoor and outdoor spaces, such as classrooms, corridors, and the schoolyard, thereby creating diverse learning environments throughout the school premises.
In essence, BaLA underscores the importance of utilizing school buildings as dynamic and multifunctional assets that enhance the learning experience for all students, while also fostering inclusivity and creativity.
- Writer’s Workshop: Organized in the Primary School, the Writer’s Workshop offers an individualized curriculum tailored to different types of learners. It is highly flexible and accommodates all curriculum objectives. This initiative teaches children to write creatively, moving away from conventional worksheets and essay topics. Instead, it encourages them to create original and personally meaningful pieces of writing, which are then refined through drafting and redrafting. The Writer’s Workshop is an integral part of the English Curriculum for Grades IV and V.
- Reading Programme: The Reading Programme is a comprehensive, graded reading program spanning from classes LKG to Grade V. Its aim is to develop effective readers intentionally. Closure activities play a vital role in this program, informing teachers about each child’s comprehension level and providing an opportunity for children to express their thoughts, think creatively, dramatize, and establish connections.
A Shri Educator serves as a guide who acknowledges the uniqueness within each child and inspires them to think creatively and critically, encouraging them to break away from conventional thinking.
A Shri Educator possesses expertise in their subject area, communicates effectively, and stays updated on the latest practices and strategies in the ever-evolving field of education. They are intrinsically motivated and dedicated, operating on the belief that every problem has a solution. They collaborate with their colleagues and students to discover these solutions. Grounded in a deep commitment to the school’s Core Values, they lead by example to ensure that students also embrace these values. The Shri Educator undergoes 50-60 hours of professional development and teacher training each year.
Continuously striving to improve their own performance, a Shri Educator actively seeks feedback and guidance, recognizing that having another perspective is not only vital but also highly effective in achieving both the school’s lofty standards and their personal potential.
